Psychiatric Care for Children and Young Adults with Autism
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDDs), can cause impairment in thinking, feeling, language, and the ability to relate to others. Like other disorders there are varying degrees of autism that require different levels of treatment. Autism disorders are typically diagnosed by the age of three years, but may possibly be diagnosed at earlier ages.
In general, a child with ASD does not follow the usual patterns of child development. Case by case variations find that for some children noticeable problems may be apparent soon after birth, while for others autism may not be completely clear until 24-36 months of age, when social and communication issues appear.
Early treatment and interventions for autism are very important. Over the past 20 years, I have had many pediatric patients suffering from autism spectrum disorders. Please call me to set up an appointment.
