Treatment for Children, Adolescents and Adults with Eating Disorders

I see patients who have serious eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia and compulsive overeating.  My experience has shown how devastating and painful these illnesses are.  Men and women with eating disorders tend to say that they began during adolescence due to issues with their body image. Unfortunately, this mental illness can cause very serious or even deadly medical issues.

Although it is common to diet sometimes, people who have eating disorders take it to extremes.  They become obsessed with their physical appearance and nothing else will seem more important to them.  For example, people with bulimia will engage in binge eating and then use self-induced vomiting or laxatives to avoid gaining weight.  Doing this deprives their bodies of nutrition and causes many levels of damage, both physically and mentally.  In the case of Anorexia, the patient will have an extreme fear of gaining weight and will diet incessantly to stave it off.  They will look in the mirror and always see an overweight person looking back, even though they may be skin and bones.

If the above describes you or your loved one, it is extremely important that treatment begins immediately.  The dangers involved with this disorder are deadly. Please contact me to set an appointment.
